"Starnews Challenge" Contest Rules

1. Eligibility: The Contest is open to anyone who has reached the age of majority (19 years of age) in the province of Ontario, Canada, excluding Starnews Credit Union staff.

2. How to play: Between 12:00AM EST on January 1, 2007 and 11:59PM EST on December 31, 2007 (the "Starnews Challenge Campaign Period"), each person who:

  • submits a challenge to Starnews Credit Union through e-mail/telephone message; or
  • each person that opens a new Starnews Credit Union membership with at least two (2) products including a Membership Share Account and another product such as a personal chequing/savings account, personal loan (includes any type such as car, consolidation, vacation, etc.), personal line of credit, personal mortgage, or equity line of credit will be entered into the prize draw (to be chosen at random at the end of the campaign period from all eligible entries) for the Prize (defined below).
To enter the Contest without submitting a challenge or opening a new membership with the two (2) new products, please mail a 200-word, original essay on the benefits of membership at Starnews Credit Union along with your name, address, and telephone number to "Starnews Challenge Campaign Contest", 1 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON, M5E 1E5. Entries must be postmarked no later than December 31, 2007, and received before January 7, 2008. Only one entry per envelope.

3. Prize: There will be one randomly selected prize. Contest entrant will receive 100,000 Choice Rewards® points (valued at $800 in Choice Rewards merchandise, or $1,000 in Choice Rewards Travel Rewards). The Prize will be credited to the member's Starnews Credit Union CU Credit® MasterCard® Account no later than January 7, 2008.

4. The Draw: The random draw for the Prize will be made on or about January 7, 2008 from all eligible Contest entries.

5. Odds of Winning: There will be 1 Prize winner. The chance of winning depends on the total number of eligible entries received.

6. Additional Terms:

  • Each contestant agrees to abide by the Contest rules and regulations.
  • The decision of the random draw judge will be final and without appeal.
  • The winner of the Prize agrees to open a Starnews Credit Union CU Credit MasterCard Account (if they don't already have one) in order to have their Prize credited to their account.
  • The winner of the Prize will be required to sign a declaration and release confirming compliance with the rules, acceptance of the Prize as awarded, consenting to the use of his/her name, address and/or photograph, without compensation, in any publicity carried out by Starnews Credit Union and/or its advertising agencies, and releasing Starnews Credit Union and all Contest sponsors and organizers from liability in connection with the awarding and use of the Prize.

7. Non-Transferable: The Prize must be accepted as awarded and no substitutions will be made. Prizes are not transferable or refundable.

8. Applicable Laws: The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws and regulations.

9. Identity of the Winner: Contestants may obtain the name of the winner by writing to Starnews Credit Union, by sending a self-addressed, sufficiently stamped envelope, within 30 days of the applicable draw "Starnews Challenge Campaign Contest", 1 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON, M5E 1E5.

10. Personal Information: Contestant personal information will be used solely for the purposes of contacting and identifying Contest winners (both for publicity purposes and to other contestants). Such personal information will be destroyed approximately 30 days from the date of the draw.
